Q&A with the NATO Deputy Secretary General

Atlantic-community.org, a virtual think-tank, is organizing this as part of NATO’s outreach to students. You can submit your questions to Ambassador Alexander Vershbow, the Deputy Secretary General of NATO, by tomorrow (Sunday, Sep. 16). You can access a video statement by the Deputy Secretary General on NATO’s Chicago summit and the challenges for the organization lying ahead here.

You can email your questions to staff@atlantic-community.org. You need to provide your full name and country of residence. Including your institutional affiliation (AUBG) is optional, but won’t hurt - unless you ask a really dumb question. IS

Announcements from The Fletcher School

Folks,
Two announcements from The Fletcher School, Tufts University. You may find them of interest. The Fletcher School has a highly-ranked professionally-oriented program in diplomacy. Sorry that the essay deadline is rather close, but we just received this information yesterday. bp

Student Essay Contest: Africa’s Role in the Global Economy
Fletcher’s Institute for Business in the Global Context has launched a student essay contest in conjunction with an upcoming conference, Africa’s Turn: The Promise and Reality of the Global Economy’s “Final Frontier.” Winners will have their papers published, will earn a cash prize, and have their travel to the conference subsidized. The deadline for essay submission is September 26.

“Map Your Future” Admissions Pathway
Last year, we launched our new Map Your Future program, which allows students in their final year of undergraduate study to apply for admission two years in their future. This is a perfect option for students who have a clear sense of their career goals and graduate school intentions, but know that they want to accrue professional skills – ranging from the Peace Corps to investment banking – before graduate school. Please encourage your students to consider this option for either our Master of Arts and Law and Diplomacy or Master of International Business program. Email us at fletcheradmissions@tufts.edu with any questions.

Hey Folks,

Once again, we will be using this blog to provide announcements and information about various opportunities. Here's one such from the UN. Some of the positions require educational credentials that you do not have; however, read through some of the offerings to get an idea of what kind of jobs arise from time to time and what they are looking for in a future UN civil servant. Think about how you can do things on campus or elsewhere that would build your experiences and skills in these areas. bp

You can read the following information that was sent to the department:

"The United Nations is looking for highly qualified candidates who are ready to launch a professional career as an international civil servant. The young professionals programme (YPP) is a recruitment initiative that brings new talent to the United Nations through an annual entrance examination. For young, high-calibre professionals across the globe, the examination is a platform for launching a career at the United Nations.  The 2012 examination will be offered in the following job families:  Architecture, Economic Affairs, Information System and technology, Political Affairs, Radio Producer and Social Affairs. We kindly request your support in giving this announcement the widest possible circulation and your assistance in identifying potentially suitable candidates. Applications from women are strongly encouraged. "
